Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports for a Monday and it?s brought to you by the City of Laurens where the Parks and Recreation Dept. wants to remind you that registration for cheerleading closes this Sat. August 18^th. .. It?s open to youth 5-12.. Also registration for baseball is underway for youth 6-8 coaches pitch and for youth 8-10 in regular baseball.. Deadline for registration is Friday Aug. 31^st.. Registration for either of these programs can be done at the Recreation Office at the Little River Park during normal business hours.
Local:

• Well the bad weather held off Friday night and the jamboree over at Clinton came off on schedule.. The first action of the night saw the Dorman JV team defeat the Laurens JV team by a score of 19-0.. The varsity teams saw action and Laurens fell behind quickly as Dorman returned the opening kickoff 93 yds. for a touchdown in route to a 21-0 victory over the Raiders.. Laurens did not allow a Dorman score in the 2^nd period.. The Cavalier blitzing type defense gave Raiders problems on offense all night.
• Clinton then faced off against traditional powerhouse Strom Thurmond? In varsity action, the Red Devils had to settle for a 7-7 tie with the rebels.. Kenyon Brown had the lone Clinton score though the offense was able to move most of the night.. Brown also had a long kickoff return called back.. ?Truett Burns had a good night punting and O?Kevius Conway was noted by Coach King for his defensive effort.?

Braves:

• The Braves finished their road trip in New York this weekend with the Mets?and on Friday they took a 4-0 win over the home team.. ?Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla both had 2-run homers for the Braves.. On Saturday, the Braves took a 9-3 win over the Mets.. ?Freddie Freeman drove in 5 of the Brave runs going 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer and a double.. Yesterday the Braves went for the sweep and came up a little short as the Mets took a 6-5 win.. ?The braves trailed 6-1 going into the top of the 9^th when the put 4 on the board and had runners on 2^nd & 3^rd?when Jason Heyward struck out to end the game.. ?The Braves return home tonight to start a series with the Padres?

Greenville Drive:

• The Greenville Drive were down in Savannah this weekend and well let?s just say they had a rough time with the sand Gnats.. On Friday they lost Thursday nights suspended game by a score of 3-2.. Then in the regularly scheduled game they lost 9-5.. The last game of the series was on Saturday and the drive did not lose that because it had to be canceled due to weather.. The Drive start a short 3-game home stand against the Rome Braves up at Flour Field.?

NASCAR:

• The 2 major NASCAR divisions were up at Watkins Glenn, N.Y. this weekend and in the Nationwide Zippo 200, Carl Edwards took the win in his 1^st?& only start of the season in this division.. Brad Keselowski?& Scott Hornish Jr. took 2^nd & 3^rd respectively?? In the Sprint Cup, Marcos Ambrose came up from 3^rd to 1^st?in the final lap to take the win.. ?The course was a little slick and he used slips by the leaders to take the win.. Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer & Sam Hornish Jr. rounded out the top 5.?

This & That:

• The PGA Championship wrapped up yesterday on Kiawah Island and Rory McIlroy won it by a record 8 strokes..
• I?ll have a final recap of the Olympics tomorrow.?

And finally, its only 11 days until the start of high school football season on August 24^th when Laurens host BHP and Clinton host Gaffney.?
