Get back Your Health Fitness With Ayurveda Massage

In the period after the end of communist rule came to our country lots of information about different ways of philosophy, religion and alternative medicine from the East. As one of the last to arrive to us knowledge about the system called Ayurveda. It is much less known than her younger sister, traditional Chinese medicine, but that does not mean we can not offer anything interesting. Rather the opposite.

What exactly is Ayurveda and what they do? Ayurveda is the science of a happy life. Ayur means life, science is science. It is therefore an Indian medicine, how most people think. In medicine, however, in some parts very closely related, and thus we would simply like to understand medicine.

History of ayurveda massage disappears somewhere in antiquity. The first written records of ayurveda appear in the Vedas, the oldest manuscripts of humanity, especially in the Atharva-Veda. These monuments are about 3000 years old, but most experts agree that it is just a written record long-cherished monuments orally. The real origin of Ayurveda can not be detected.

Ayurveda massage then significantly influenced the spread of Buddhism, traditional Chinese medicine, Egyptian medicine and in particular which is little known ancient Greek medicine, which became the basis of European medicine and has been practiced throughout Europe until at least the Renaissance period. The objection that the foreign ayurveda system unsuitable for Europeans will not do. Conversely Ayurveda massage is a system based on the same tradition as European thinking, but over time these systems diverged.

One of the striking features which are different ayurveda diet nutrition from other systems is the abundance use of spices. It does, however, need sharp spicy dishes, but the frequent use of various spices taste to highlight the taste, color and aroma. Other reasons may be medical, or preservatives. Some spices have specific effects on a variety of health problems. These effects may be advantageously used. These effects will be further described in a more detailed description of the individual spices.

NBA scores: Hawks climb past Bucks, Wizards continue rampage

In Saturday's NBA action, the Wizards continued their hot play with a victory over the Rockets and the Hawks edged the rival Bucks in J.J. Redick's Milwaukee debut. Plus, Danny Granger returned to action.

Saturday featured seven NBA games, many of them close. Let's dig in.

    Hawks 103, Bucks 102
As long as Josh Smith is going to stick around, the Hawks might as well win, right? Atlanta is 2-0 since the deadline, notching a one-point win over the Bucks on Saturday. Al Horford picked up the game-winner -- a half-hook bank shot, of course -- to cap a 23-point, 11-rebound night. The Jeff Teague-Devin Harris backcourt outplayed Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings-Monta Ellis pairing, too. The Hawks duo scored 44 on a .692 eFG with 13 assists and three turnovers; the Bucks tandem had 25 points on .442 eFG with 15 assists and six turnovers.

In his Milwaukee debut, J.J. Redick was strong. He had 16 points on 4-9 shooting and seven assists against two turnovers. And yes, Jim Boylan did give us the three-guard lineup we've been dying to see since Thursday: the Bucks' lineup for the final four minutes featured Jennings, Ellis, Redick, Ersan Ilyasova and Larry Sanders. The Bucks led by five when Boylan put in Jennings for Mike Dunleavy. Four minutes later, Milwaukee had a one-point loss. This is going to be awesome.

    Wizards 105, Rockets 103
Be wary, opponents: Washington is now 11-4 against teams with winning records since January 7. It's a completely different team over the past month, as Saturday's gutty two-point win shows. The Wizards' defense and offense both had slow starts, and Houston led by 11 at the half. But the Wizards plugged away to make it a game, and dominated defensively in the fourth. The Rockets shot 13-28 (.464) on threes in the first half and 6-18 (.333) in the second. The Wizards did most of their damage in the paint, but Bradley Beal was the top scorer with 21. James Harden racked up 27.

    Pacers 90, Pistons 72
Danny Granger's back! That is not, however, the reason the Pacers blew out the Pistons, though. In 18 minutes off of the bench, Granger was 1-10 from the floor. Luckily for Indiana, Detroit was basically that bad top to bottom, shooting 33 percent for the game and racking up an offensive efficiency of roughly 78. George Hill led Indy with 17 on 7-10 shooting.

    Clippers 107, Jazz 94
On a team with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, it's Caron Butler and Lamar Odom getting the job done. What a world. Butler had 21 on 7-13 shooting and Odom added 18 off of the bench. The Jazz missed an opportunity to extend their standings lead over the Rockets.

    Heat 114, Sixers 90
Thirty-three points on 14-18 shooting from Dwyane Wade, no big deal.

    Nuggets 113, Bobcats 99
Denver's big men got the job done efficiently: Kenneth Faried scored 15 on nine shots and JaVale McGee scored 17 on 10. Byron Mullens and Bismack Biyombo, meanwhile, shot 4-17.

    Cavaliers 118, Magic 94
How bad was this game for Orlando? Kyrie Irving and Alonzo Gee did this in the first quarter:

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Johnny Sauter has won the NASCAR Truck Series season opener, his first victory at Daytona International Speedway.

Sauter led the final 17 laps and held off Kyle Busch before a last-lap wreck forced the 250-mile race to finish under caution Friday night.

Sauter says, "I can't believe I'm in Victory Lane in Daytona."

Busch, a Sprint Cup regular who drives a few races in the Trucks Series, wound up second for the third time in the series opener.

It was the 100th win in the series for Toyota and the manufacturer's seventh straight at NASCAR's most famous track.

Ron Hornaday Jr. was third, followed by Justin Lofton, Jeb Burton and Ty Dillon.

Defending series champion James Buescher was involved in the last-lap wreck and finished 13th, one spot behind highly touted rookie Darrell Wallace Jr.

Boeing proposes full 787 battery fix to FAA: sources

WASHINGTON/SEATTLE (Reuters) - Boeing Co gave U.S. aviation regulators its plan to fix the volatile battery aboard its new 787 Dreamliner on Friday, even before investigators know what caused the batteries to overheat on two planes last month.

Boeing will not propose abandoning the lithium-ion batteries, however, and is not working on a backup or longer-term fix for the problem that has grounded its entire fleet of 50 787 Dreamliners, three sources familiar with the plan said.

The proposal, made to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, includes specific measures aimed at addressing possible causes of short-circuits that prompted one of the lithium-ion batteries on board a 787 to catch fire at a Boston airport in January, the sources said. A second battery smoldered during a flight in Japan a few days later, leading to an emergency landing and evacuation.

The proposal includes insulation between the cells of the battery and a stronger, stainless steel box with a venting tube to contain a fire and expel fumes outside the aircraft should a battery catch fire again, the sources said.

"I have talked to a number of people who are working directly on these batteries. No one is on the Plan-B team," said a person familiar with Boeing's efforts who was not authorized to speak publicly about them.

Boeing's proposal to the FAA is not a temporary "band-aid" that would be supplanted by another solution later, said a second source, who also was not authorized to speak publicly.

The FAA did not respond to requests for comment.

Boeing declined to comment specifically on its proposal, and reiterated that hundreds of engineers and technical experts are working "around the clock" to return the 787 fleet to service. "Everyone is working to get to the answer as quickly as possible and good progress is being made," spokesman Marc Birtel said.

Five weeks after U.S. authorities grounded the worldwide fleet of 787s, U.S., Japanese and French investigators are still not certain what caused the battery fire aboard an All Nippon Airways 787 in Boston and an overheated, smoking battery on a Japan Airlines 787 in Japan.

The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the Boston fire and the Japan Transportation Safety Board is investigating the battery failure in Japan. Neither have found a root cause for the problems.

The sources said it is possible the NTSB might never determine the root cause.

Boeing's stock was up 64 cents, or 0.84 percent, at $75.65 in late trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Old Union replied to Nick Henderson's discussion Why are boots the work footwear? What are some classic quality brands?

Hi, I work outside in the field. I wear boots because it's what I think of as work wear, but they aren't very comfortable after long hours and when I go hiking I wear sneakers, which got me to thinking why are boots the work foot wear? Are they supposed to be more comfortable then shoes if you buy a quality pair? Does anyone have suggestions for me?

I would like comfortable quality foot wear with these preferences:

    above the ankle for support

    good for long hours

quality brand (I would like to buy a great pair and get them resoled as needed rather than buy new ones)

can go from work to dinner

    good for riding a motorcycle

and would really like an old classic brand from before the 70s that would be a good 2nd hand find (I like old things, I'm an archaeology student)

I have been thinking red wings, doc martens, timberlands, or alden's if I get lucky. Am I thinking in the right direction?

Snapchat and the Erasable Future of Social Media - Patient Privacy ...

By: Dr. Deborah C. Peel, MD / Patient Privacy Rights
    February 7th, 2013

Here is a recent article about SnapChat, which makes pictures and videos shared via the Internet disappear 10 seconds after they are seen.?Internet technologies constantly collect and use personal data without consent. American health IT systems do the very same thing: constantly collect and use sensitive personal health data without consent. New technologies that ?erase? data after a single use could prevent secondary collection, disclosures, and sales of everything from our diagnoses to prescription records to DNA.?We are constantly told young Americans don?t care about privacy. Would you be surprised to learn that?s wrong? The truth is the majority of people, young and old, want to control the use of personal data:

    • -?88?percent of participants from ages 18 to 24 responded that there should be a law requiring websites and advertising companies to delete all stored information about an individual upon request?
    • -?94?percent of people from 45 to 54 also supported the idea?

?The default setting for almost everything people share online is that it will live for eternity in the cloud? ?-we are forced to surrender control of personal information just to be online. Who believes the US public agreed that total surveillance is a fair price for using the Internet?

Since we can?t STOP personal data from being collected, technologies like Snapchat? and Wickr that make data ?erasable? are critical tools to help restore control over personal data.

Americans want the right to be forgotten, BUT FIRST AND FOREMOST, our constitutional RIGHT TO BE LET ALONE should be restored in the digital age.

KEY QUOTES from the article about Snapchat:

    • -?In the U.S., Snapchat was the second-most popular free photo and video app for the iPhone in early February, just behind YouTube and ahead of Instagram.?
    • -Pew Research Center survey found that 57?percent of all app users ?have either uninstalled an app over concerns about having to share their personal information, or declined to install an app in the first place for similar reasons.?
    • -A January?2013 study by the Ponemon Institute? found social media to be among the least trusted industries when it comes to protecting customers? privacy online.
    • -[Snapchat's] rapid growth demonstrates a huge business opportunity?namely, services aimed at the increasing number of people worried about their social media footprints.
    • -researchers at the University of California at Berkeley found that ?.young Americans ?.[are] as anxious as their parents about their permanent social records.
    • -88?percent of participants from ages 18 to 24 responded that there should be a law requiring websites and advertising companies to delete all stored information about an individual upon request
    • -94?percent of people from 45 to 54 also supported the idea
    • -?The early adopters of Snapchat are teens in the U.S.?
    • -?Whenever I ask someone, do they want control over the messages and media that they send to others, the answer 100?percent is yes,? says Sell. ?There?s no question that this has mainstream appeal.?
    • -Sell talks of private communication as ?a universal human right? that largely doesn?t exist in the current digital landscape in which big data companies are continuously harvesting and mining information about our every online utterance.

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) ? A car bomb exploded Thursday near Syria's ruling party headquarters in Damascus, killing at least 53 people and scattering mangled bodies among the blazing wreckage in one of the bloodiest days in the capital since the uprising began almost two years ago.

Elsewhere in the city, two other bombs struck intelligence offices, killing 22, and mortar rounds hit the army's central command, activists said.

Recent rebel advances in the Damascus suburbs, combined with the bombings and three straight days of mortar attacks, mark the most sustained challenge of the civil war for control of the seat of President Bashar Assad's power.

Syrian state media said the car bombing near the Baath Party headquarters and the Russian Embassy was a suicide attack that killed 53 civilians and wounded more than 200, with children among the casualties. Anti-regime activists put the death toll at 61, which would make it the deadliest Damascus bombing of the revolt.

The violence has shattered the sense of normalcy that the Syrian regime has desperately tried to maintain in Damascus, a city that has largely been insulated from the bloodshed and destruction that has left other urban centers in ruins.

The rebels launched an offensive on Damascus in July following a stunning bombing on a high-level government crisis meeting that killed four top regime officials, including Assad's brother-in-law and the defense minister. Following that attack, rebel groups that had established footholds in the suburbs pushed in, battling government forces for more than a week before being routed and swept out.

Since then, government warplanes have pounded opposition strongholds on the outskirts, and rebels have managed only small incursions on the city's southern and eastern sides.

But the recent bombings and mortar attacks suggest that instead of trying a major assault, rebel fighters are resorting to guerrilla tactics to loosen Assad's grip on the heavily fortified capital.

The fighting in Damascus also follows a string of tactical victories in recent weeks for the rebels - capturing the nation's largest hydroelectric dam and overtaking airbases in the northeast - that have contributed to the sense that the opposition may be gaining some momentum.

But Damascus is the ultimate prize in the civil war, and many view the battle for the ancient city as the most probable endgame of a conflict that according to U.N. estimates has killed nearly 70,000 people.

To defend the capital, Assad is using his most reliable and loyal troops, activists say, including the Republican Guard and the feared 4th Division, commanded by his brother, Maher. Armed checkpoints have sprung up across the city as part of the regime's efforts to keep the rebels at bay.

Thursday's car bomb hit a checkpoint on a bustling thoroughfare in the central Mazraa neighborhood between the Baath Party headquarters and the Russian Embassy. The force of the explosion shattered the balconies of apartment blocks along the tree-lined street and blew out the windows and doors of the party building.

Video of the blast site on Syrian state TV showed firefighters dousing a flaming car with hoses, while lifeless and dismembered bodies were tossed onto the grass of a nearby park. The state news agency, SANA, published photos showing a large crater in the middle of the rubble-strewn street and charred cars with blackened bodies inside.

"It was huge. Everything in the shop turned upside down," one local resident said. He said three of his employees were injured by flying glass that killed a young girl who was walking by when the blast hit.

"I pulled her inside the shop, but she was almost gone. We couldn't save her. She was hit in the stomach and head," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution for talking to foreign media.

Ambulances rushed to the scene of the blast, which sent a huge cloud of black smoke billowing into the sky.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but suspicion will likely fall upon one of the most extreme of Syria's myriad rebel factions, Jabhat al-Nusra.

The group, which the U.S. has designated to be a terrorist organization, has claimed past bombings on regime targets, including the double suicide blast outside an intelligence building in May that killed 55.

Such tactics have galvanized Assad's supporters and made many other Syrians distrustful of the rebel movement as a whole, most of whose fighters do not use such tactics.

The main opposition group, the Syrian National Coalition, condemned Thursday's bombing without accusing a specific group of carrying it out. It did, however, suggest that the regime allowed foreign terrorist groups to operate in Syria.

"The terrorist Assad regime bears the most responsibility for all the crimes that happen in the homeland because it has opened the doors to those with different agendas to enter Syria and harm its stability so it can hide behind this and use it as an excuse to justify its crimes," the group said in a statement on its Facebook page.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland condemned the "indiscriminate violence against civilians."

Russia's state-owned RIA Novosti news agency quoted a Russian Embassy official as saying its building had been damaged in the blast but no one was hurt.

Among those injured by flying glass was Nayef Hawatmeh, the leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a radical Damascus-based Palestinian group. He suffered cuts to his hands and face, according to an official at his office, which is about 500 yards from the bomb. Hawatmeh was treated at a hospital and released.

In a separate attack, Syrian state TV said mortar shells hit near the Syrian Army General Command but caused no casualties. The report said the building was empty because it was being repaired from a bombing last year.

The Observatory said two mortar rounds struck near the building but it did not report casualties. It also said two more shells landed in the upscale Malki neighborhood, causing no damage or casualties.

Another blast in the northeastern Barzeh neighborhood killed seven people, a security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.

The Observatory, which relies on a network of activists inside Syria, said three separate car bombs exploded near different security facilities in Barzeh, followed by intense clashes between rebels and regime forces. It said 22 people were killed, 19 of them security officers.

State media also reported that security forces in Damascus had arrested a second, would-be suicide bomber driving a car full of explosives near the site of the Mazraa bombing.

On Wednesday, two mortar shells exploded next to a soccer stadium in Damascus, killing one player. A day earlier, two shells hit near one of Assad's three palaces in the city, with some damage reported.

In the southern town of Daraa, where Syria's uprising began nearly two years ago, the Observatory said 18 people were killed in an airstrike on a field hospital, included eight rebel fighters, three medics, one woman and a young girl.

A video posted online showed the dead and wounded being loaded into the backs of trucks. Some were bloody and had bandaged heads, while others were carried on stretchers.

The videos appeared to be authentic and corresponded with Associated Press reports of the events depicted.

The conflict began in March 2011 with political protests against the government, and has since evolved into a civil war between Assad's regime and hundreds of rebel groups seeking to topple it.

International diplomacy has failed to slow the fighting.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Thursday that his message to Assad is "it is time to go," and that the senseless killing must be brought to an end through a political process.

He also urged Assad to respond to a dialogue offer made recently by Syrian opposition chief Mouaz al-Khatib.

"A political agreement on a transition is the way forward in Syria to bring to an end this terrible and unacceptable loss of life," he said.

Al-Khatib has said he is open to talks with the regime as a way of removing it from power. The government has refused, insisting the talks should be without preconditions and inside the country.

The Syrian National Coalition met in Cairo on Thursday to try to firm up its position on whether to engage with the regime in talks. A final decision was expected Friday.

(AP) ? Here comes the sequester: big federal spending cuts and a new season of economic uncertainty for a nation still trying to shake off a recession.

The politics of sequestration have been fierce, the finger-pointing incessant. And to no one's surprise, what was designed as a way out of one Washington standoff has produced another one ? and more. A week out from the March 1 deadline, there are no meaningful efforts in Washington to avert the punishing automatic cuts set out in a law nearly two years ago.

Bellowing and blame aside, what really would happen if, as expected, President Barack Obama and congressional lawmakers allow the nation to blow past the deadline?

Q: What's the big overall picture?

A: A series of cuts to federal agencies that would lead to longer lines at the nation's borders, less money for teachers and more hassle at airport checkpoints. Virtually every dollar approved each year by Congress would be slashed by a uniform amount, which would mean at least temporary layoffs for hundreds of thousands of public and private-sector workers. Programs like Medicare and Social Security are exempt, but there is no question the slashing of other programs would slow the nation's fragile economic recovery.

    Q: And the big numbers?

A: Under a 2011 law designed to avert exactly this type of inaction, March 1 means automatic cuts of $85 billion from a $3.6 trillion budget over the seven months spanning March-September. That would include cuts of 8 percent to the Pentagon and 5 percent to domestic agency operating budgets. More than 3.8 million Americans who have been jobless for six months or longer could see their unemployment benefits reduced by as much as 9.4 percent.

Q: Why is this happening, what's actually going to occur and who is likely to be most affected. First, how did we get here?

A: The seeds of the sequester were sown by a demand by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, that the 2011 debt limit increase be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by cuts in federal spending. After "grand bargain" talks between Boehner and Obama broke down, the White House came up with the sequester idea as a way to guarantee large enough deficit cuts to offset enough new borrowing to make sure Washington didn't have to revisit the debt limit until after the 2012 elections. The sequester threat was designed to be so harsh that it would drive the sides to compromise on an alternative.

It didn't work. House Republicans twice last year passed legislation to replace the cuts with larger savings drawn from programs like food stamps and federal employee pensions. Democrats controlling the Senate didn't offer an alternative and instead put their faith in postelection negotiations to avert the "fiscal cliff," which resulted in Obama claiming victory on his promise to raise taxes on the rich but only a two-month respite from the sequester. Now, Republicans say they won't give in to demands by Obama and the Democrats controlling the Senate for higher taxes as part of any solution.

Q: How quickly will the sequester's impact be felt? How will we notice it?

A: It depends. At first, the general public may not much notice the cuts. The sequester isn't a government shutdown; it's a government slowdown. Furloughs of federal workers ? forced unpaid days off ? generally won't start for a month due to notification requirements. Many government contracts would still be funded using money previously approved even as agencies slow down the awards of new contracts. But furloughs of workers like air traffic controllers, meat inspectors, FBI agents, the Border Patrol and park rangers will mean an inevitable deterioration of noticeable government services that could, for instance, force intermittent closures of meat packing plants and shorter operating hours at smaller airports.

Other impacts will be more subtle, like longer waits at security checkpoints at airports and along the Mexican border or for cargo inspections at ports. Cuts inside the Defense Department will be particularly acute, in part because military pay is exempt, which will force sharper cuts on the rest of the budget, particularly training and maintenance. Civilian Pentagon workers will face furloughs of 22 days through the end of September. Basically, if you work for the government or do business with it, you'll be hardest hit.

Q: Will it harm the economy?

A: Yes. The Congressional Budget Office estimates it will cost 750,000 jobs and lower economic growth by 0.6 percent. That's because the cuts drain demand from the economy and affect companies that do business with the government.

Q: How big are the cuts? Huge numbers?

A: Over a decade, the cuts total about $1 trillion, half from defense and half from domestic programs. There's an additional $200 billion or so in lower government interest payments. For this budget year, the Congressional Budget Office estimates the cuts are $42.7 billion from defense (8 percent) and $42.7 billion from domestic programs (5 percent). Because the cuts are backloaded into the last seven months of the budget year, they feel more like a 13 percent cut to the Pentagon and 9 percent cut to domestic agencies during that period. And these are real cuts from agency budgets that have been essentially frozen at last year's levels.

    Q: Aren't a lot of programs exempt?

A: Yes. The majority of the federal budget is in fact walled off from the cuts. Social Security and veterans' programs are exempt, and cuts to Medicare are generally limited to a 2 percent, $10 billion reduction in payments to hospitals and doctors. Most programs that help the poor, like Medicaid, food stamps, subsidized school lunches, Pell Grants and supplemental security income payments are also exempt.

Q: How much discretion do the agency heads have on what to cut, and when?

A: Not much. The cuts are supposed to apply equally to every "program, project and activity." That means, for instance, that the Agriculture Department can't take money designated for Boll Weevil research and use it to pay meat inspectors. Some lawmakers want to give agency heads greater flexibility to shift money around, but the administration says that would be of only limited help. The White House has told agencies to avoid cuts presenting "risks to life, safety or health" and to minimize harm to crucial services.

Q: OK, say it's now March 2, and the sequester has gone into effect. Is there any way to undo or limit it before much of its effect is felt?

A: Sure, but it'll take an act of Congress and Obama's signature. So the best chance for averting the sequester's major consequences might be to let it take effect and see if there's a widespread backlash from business and the public that somehow provokes lawmakers and Obama to compromise. That's hardly guaranteed. One legislative option would be to turn to a separate effort to prevent a government shutdown on March 27 and use that bill to address the sequester or to give agencies flexibility in mitigating its effects.

RIAA claims Google's antipiracy downranking doesn't work

Google offered an olive branch to content producers when it promised to downrank pirate sites in its search results last summer. Really, the RIAA was looking for the whole tree; it just published a report claiming that Google's technique hasn't had any tangible impact. The agency argues that the millions of takedown requests didn't lead to "significant" drops in rank for habitual violators. It further contends that many legitimate music sites only showed up in the top ten for about half of the searches, and were often kicked down the ladder by their bootleg counterparts. We're reaching out to Google to get its side of the story, but the RIAA isn't quite as patient: it's demanding that Google "immediately" change the results and volunteers its help. While that's a step forward from the music group's previous accusatory stance, it doesn't quite represent a two-way conversation on anti-piracy measures.

Thieves pull off multimillion dollar diamond heist in Belgium

The robbers, dressed as policemen, breached the security fence at Brussels Airport and stole the diamonds from the cargo hold of a Swiss passenger jet.

    By Reuters / February 19, 2013

Baggage carts make their way past a Helvetic Airways aircraft from which millions' of dollars worth of diamonds were stolen on the tarmac of Brussels international airport, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. Eight armed and masked men made a hole in a security fence at Brussels' international airport, drove onto the tarmac and snatched millions of dollars' worth of diamonds from the hold of a Swiss-bound plane without firing a shot, authorities said Tuesday.

Two vehicles carrying eight men drove up to a van belonging to security firm Brinks, which had just finished loading the diamonds into a Swiss passenger plane, on Monday evening, officials said.

The men, who were masked but also wore police uniforms, did not fire a single shot and the entire heist took less than five minutes, said Ine Van Wymersch, spokeswoman for the Brussels prosecutor's office.

They escaped and are now being hunted by police.

"They were well prepared," Van Wymersch said. "There were passengers on the plane but they saw nothing of what was going on.

Prosecutors said they could not yet comment on how much the diamonds taken were worth or to whom they belonged.

Belgian state broadcaster VRT reported the total value was 350 million euros ($467 million). A spokeswoman for the Antwerp Diamond Center said the value may be closer to $50 million.

"In any case it's one of the biggest robberies we've seen," she said.

Antwerp has been a leading diamond center for centuries, with some eight in every 10 rough diamonds, and five in every 10 polished diamonds, passing through it.

Both vehicles sped off after the robbery and one was later found burnt just outside of Brussels.

The robbers managed to get onto the tarmac after breaking through the fence that surrounds the airport, an airport spokesman said.

(AP) ? Scientists have found more than 50 tiny fragments of a meteor that exploded over Russia's Ural Mountains, and preliminary tests are turning up information about its contents.

However, local residents seem more interested in the black market value of the fragments. As they search for their own pieces of the meteor, sales offers already are filling the Internet, and police are warning all purchasers to prepare for possible fraud.

The meteor ? which injured nearly 1,500 people and caused widespread property damage in Chelyabinsk city on Friday ? was the largest recorded space rock to hit Earth in more than a century. Health officials said 46 of the injured remain hospitalized.

Viktor Grokhovsky, who led the expedition from Urals Federal University, said Monday that 53 fragments of the meteor have been plucked from the ice-covered Chebarkul Lake. He said they are less than a centimeter (half an inch) in size, about 10 percent iron, and belong to the chondrite type, the most common variation of meteorites found on Earth.

Friday's meteor left a six-meter-wide (20-foot-wide) hole in the ice covering the lake. Divers inspecting it have found nothing at the bottom, but Grokhovsky said a fragment as large as 50-60 centimeters (20-24 inches) could eventually be found there.

Meanwhile, workers in the city remained busy replacing acres of windows shattered by a powerful shockwave caused by the meteor's strike, which NASA said released 500 kilotons of energy, the power equivalent to more than 30 Hiroshima bombs.

The local governor estimated the damage at 1 billion rubles ($33 million) and said he hopes the federal government will provide at least half that amount.

Lidiya Rykhlova, head of the astronomy department at the Moscow-based Institute for Space Research, said experts have drafted a program that envisages building new powerful telescopes, including space-based ones, to warn against potentially dangerous asteroids, comets and other threats. The 10-year program would cost 58 billion rubles ($1.9 billion).

That huge price tag has raised many eyebrows, drawing a sarcastic post from Alexei Navalny, an anti-corruption crusader and opposition leader. "You'd better fix roads in Chelyabinsk. Holes on them cause more damage than 100 meteorites," he said.

Rykhklova, speaking to online Gazeta.ru, dismissed Navalny's sarcasm, saying the Chelyabinsk fireball highlighted the need for quick creation of such an early warning system.

Comings and Goings: Chinese buffet opens

    February 17, 2013 5:08 PM

Lin's Grand Buffet and Mongolian Grill at the corner of 16th Street and Pacific Avenue opens for business Monday, reported co-owner Frank Lam, who owns nine other restaurants in Texas and Phoenix.

That's none too soon for people who have been stopping by in hopes of trying out its cuisine.

This weekend, there's been a flurry of activity putting the finishing touches on the building, stocking the kitchen and finalizing staff training. It currently has 70 employees.

The restaurant will feature buffet lines with close to 100 items from salads and fruits to main dishes, and there's soft-serve ice cream for dessert for kids of all ages. There's also a Mongolian grill where people can select the meat and vegetables they want, then have them grilled to order. Or on weekends, they can have grilled steak to order and there's a sushi bar.

They can eat amid an elegant Asian decor of marble floors, mosaic tile walls, dining tables with inlaid artwork and colorful Asian artwork and other touches on the walls.

Lin's will be open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It can be reached at 329-5899.

By the way, it's easy to see at night, with the building outlined in red lights.

It's ?almost but not yet? for a new modular clubhouse and pro shop for Desert Hills Par 3 Golf Course (formerly Arroyo Dunes) at 32nd Street and Avenue A. LPC Construction is the general contractor.

There's no estimate for opening yet. Once complete and open, it will be not only a place to pay your green fees for the par-3 course, but also to purchase golf balls, tees, gloves, hats and shirts. It will carry many of the same items found in the pro shop at the larger Desert Hills Golf Course.

The new building also will have a light snack and beverage bar and a patio where patrons can relax and enjoy their snack and drink (adult or otherwise) under Yuma skies.

A separate phone number has not yet been established for the par-3's clubhouse. In the meantime, for more information, call the main number for Desert Hills at 373-5220.
