Comings and Goings: Chinese buffet opens

Lin's Grand Buffet and Mongolian Grill at the corner of 16th Street and Pacific Avenue opens for business Monday, reported co-owner Frank Lam, who owns nine other restaurants in Texas and Phoenix.

That's none too soon for people who have been stopping by in hopes of trying out its cuisine.

This weekend, there's been a flurry of activity putting the finishing touches on the building, stocking the kitchen and finalizing staff training. It currently has 70 employees.

The restaurant will feature buffet lines with close to 100 items from salads and fruits to main dishes, and there's soft-serve ice cream for dessert for kids of all ages. There's also a Mongolian grill where people can select the meat and vegetables they want, then have them grilled to order. Or on weekends, they can have grilled steak to order and there's a sushi bar.

They can eat amid an elegant Asian decor of marble floors, mosaic tile walls, dining tables with inlaid artwork and colorful Asian artwork and other touches on the walls.

Lin's will be open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It can be reached at 329-5899.

There's a new Brown Bag Burger in town. Owner Kayla Mattern has opened a second location at 712 S. 4th Ave. (She also has a restaurant at 5836 E. 32nd St.) The new eatery can be reached at 314-0966.

The 4th Avenue store opens daily at 10:30 a.m., and remains open until 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10:30 p.m. Fridays, 11 p.m. Saturdays and 8 p.m. Sundays. It serves burgers, fish fries and all kinds of add-ons as well as such beverages as milkshakes.

It's ?almost but not yet? for a new modular clubhouse and pro shop for Desert Hills Par 3 Golf Course (formerly Arroyo Dunes) at 32nd Street and Avenue A. LPC Construction is the general contractor.

There's no estimate for opening yet. Once complete and open, it will be not only a place to pay your green fees for the par-3 course, but also to purchase golf balls, tees, gloves, hats and shirts. It will carry many of the same items found in the pro shop at the larger Desert Hills Golf Course.

The new building also will have a light snack and beverage bar and a patio where patrons can relax and enjoy their snack and drink (adult or otherwise) under Yuma skies.

A separate phone number has not yet been established for the par-3's clubhouse. In the meantime, for more information, call the main number for Desert Hills at 373-5220.

Official word from Fry's, which still holds the lease for its former grocery store in the Pioneer Shopping Center, is that there's no approved deal at this point for another business to sublease the space.

ACES (Air Cooled Engine Service) recently moved and is now at 655 E. 20th St. The 11-year-old business had outgrown its previous location, reported owner Earnest Alfarue.

The business offers repairs for such items as string trimmers, blowers, lawn mowers, tillers, chain saws, generators, quads and go-karts. In addition, technician Reid Koch repairs some laptops and cell phones as a side business.

The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and by appointment Saturday mornings. It can be reached at 373-0335.

A new boutique is coming to downtown Yuma. Chi Boutique will be opening its doors March 2 at 224 Main St. in Suite 108. It will offer clothing ?for the sophisticated and modern woman? as well as accessories. Owner Ana Colon has several years of retail experience.
